And the songs are so much better for what they are meant for. Love and Pain. The garbage you spew is pitiful drivel. And in Blender magazine Green Day was right at the top at number one with Wake me up when September ends. The same magazine that said Billie Joe was the "The Hero Of The Year". I guess my main point is that just because something sells or wins a Grammy (an award not worth winning to Homer Simpson) doesn't make it "better" than something else. Are you an Arctic Monkeys fan? They are outrageously popular in Britain. Do you think the latest J-pop is outstanding? What about Indian pop? It's not about popularity, its about what kind of music you like.

I'm sure our tastes overlap at least a bit. I try to not be a music snob who only listens to the newest indie stuff. i like The Arctic Monkeys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Their 1rst cd was "10/39 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours"
and their second was "Kerplunk!". Maybe those cds

best Green Day album. Inbetween Dookie and American Idiot
there was Insomniac, Nimrod, Shenadigans, Warning and

In the late 80's, Green Day (with the pre-Tre Cool drummer) released 2 EP's, '10/30 Smoothed Out' and 'Slappy Hours'. In 1990, these songs were changed slightly and more polished, and were compiled onto one CD as '10/39 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours' to create an album in the hope of getting them signed. Original copies of these EP's are worth about £100/$175. It's impossible to find one. Then there was a slight break when the drummer left, and they replaced him with Tré Cool and the Kerplunk era began.

The worst part is that you're separating Green Day's career as Dookie, and American Idiot, with the other albums as time between. Sure, Dookie is the best one (and has sold the most copies, 15 million to date, but im sure you knew that...) but the time after that (before the steaming pile of faeces that was American Idiot) was the best period of Green Day's career. Yet it's so often overlooked by their recent converts. Odd that, considering...

Anyway, back to the topic of the thread. I was gonna say different strokes for different folks and to each his own. But then you dissed Wolf Parade. They are extremely good. And since you're from Canada, why don't you try other music. Less mainstream stuff. Canada does have a lot of good stuff. If Green Day is your thing, there are probably other bands similar to them but different, that will, if you listen to them, expand your taste. Things can grow on you. Stellastarr* grew on me definately. My friend had their self-titled album and I wasn't really into it. Then I kept listening to it and loved it. I'm not as crazy about them as I used to be (sorry guys). I still like them, but I've been exploring more. You can have your favorite band, but it's also good to expand. And, I'm ashamed to say, I used to be a Green Day fan and saw them live 2 years ago (I'm so sorry guys :o ). But then I started to not listen to the radio, and look up stuff online and found better, more underground stuff. And I love it. You should try it, too. So I guess I can say, there's no need for bashing other's taste in anything (and everyone should lay off the "that's so retarded" and "you're retarded" stuff becuase it's disrespectful and out of line). I can still say to each his own, but do some research and look into other stuff to expand your interests. Who knows, someday you might like Stellastarr*.

The Killers are riding their first album and making a fortune. Although I dispised them I commend them for (making it) without really selling out.

As for GBIB I think she should get a hold of the first CD because there are more rocking songs. I myself like the first CD tons better. But HFTH does come in handy for certain thoughtful moods.

what i (and probly other people here) would reccomend doing is looking at these artists, and trying to find others like them.
what i've done is go on the iTunes music store, and go to my favorite artists and check the "listeners also bought."
it's a bit scewed for more well-known bands, but just quickly looking at the AFI page, they do a good job of putting a smattering of selections there. all the bands for stellastarr* are pretty good

Also if you like Jet, get any Beatles or Stones album.

And seek out the Clash and Stiff Little Fingers, this will enable you to impress your peers because people seem to associate liking any music that was made before they were born with being mature.

I'm pretty well. Had the first of 2 days of finals today. tomorrow is the last day of school so i'm happy i guess. about 1/4 of my friends are seniors so i wont be seeing them for a while...

Why not? I was hooked on Miss Murder when the single came out. Then I got Decemberunderground and I was satisfied.
Before that there was Sing The Sorrow, which had Dancing Through Sunday and Girls Not Grey. But I like the non-hits on that album better.

eh, the vocals of what i've heard sounded pretty generic in that emo-pop (sounds like the worst frozen desert ever) sort of way, a little to forward in the production. and the drumming didn't do anything for me. i like good drumming (and bass lines)

Here's my contribution to it:
Green Day are shit, couple of songs I commend them for, the best period was the late 90s for them, American Idiot is one of the most overrated piles of wank I have ever had the misfortune of hearing.
I agree that it is completely pointless to compare Stellastarr* and Green Day as they are two different bands, one is doing something quite new and very interesting whilst the other is ripping off stuff from thirty years ago and making too much money out of it.
AFI are pretty good in my opinion, my band once covered God Called In Sick Today, I haven't heard a great deal but I quite liked what I heard (mainly 90s stuff it has to be said). I only have the Girl's Not Grey single personally but it's on grey vinyl with a Cure cover on the back so that gives me cred anyway.
"Greendayisbetter": you make pretty good arguments and I reckon that in about 4 or 5 years you'll get fed up with your pretty generic music taste (but the Offspring are cool, I can't fault you on that,as long as you agree Ignition is the best album of course) and you might even decide SS* aren't as bad as you previously thought.

Also I'd like to say that you really can't base who's the better band by awards and stuff, the results of most awards ceremonies are decided by a smal number of judges, so basically by Green Day winning awards they are telling you what is cool and you are believing them. ie mind control. ie the opposite of everything that "punk" is about.

I use the word punk in inverted commas of course because we all know proper punk died with the Sex Pistols (ie almost 30 years ago). Post-punk was better anyway.

The AFI concert was amazing. Davey ( the lead singer ) walked on the crowd when he proformed "God Called In Sick Today". The rest of it was good, too.
After the show, which ended around 12:00am or so, I waited outside for Davey to come out with about 40 other people. Then the crowd started to get thiner. Then at about 2:00 in the morning it started to rain, so I went home. I almost got the bassist`s autograph, though. All in all it was an amazing show. You should go when they come, if you can.
