View Thread : I predict...2007

I predict that 2007 will be the year for SS* to break out big. I have many people who want to see them live now that they have these two albums out and people know they have been touring. People that are true fans need to get the word out. This band is much better than some critics have cited. Keep up the good work. All of you should be so very proud. My relatives and friends that went with me to see them in Columbia MO fell in love with SS. Remember that best bands that were influential never made it big at first. They grew into it. Just as you are doing. But as I am writing this I know that between now and next year at this time. SS* will become very big. Not that that is a good thing in itself. Because to be understood by their fans and to grow a true fan base and to produce meaningful interesting music is the key. Not any fame or fortune can equal that if you are truly an artist.

Much Love
P.S. FANS...get the word out!!!
Joe

I thought it was going to happen this year. When I first saw stellastarr*, the Killers opened for them. And the rest is well known. So I say, I give up... stellastarr* won't make it big unless THEY SELL OUT!!

and i'm not talking about their concerts...

that might very well be true, they aren;t quite cheeky enough to do some massive underground thing like the Arctic Monkeys, mking it big out of nothing. thats also easier in Britain.

Sony just needs to have enough faith in them to get them some radio play. Touring is always good too, of course

to be honest, I don't think they're ever going to get BIG. and I also expect them to break up sooner rather than later (let's say after 3/4 albums). but I honestly believe that in 10 years time songs like 'My Coco' and 'Jenny' will be viewed the way songs like 'Debaser' and 'Gigantic' are viewed these days. i.e. as dancefloor-filling indie classics

why would you expect them to break up

touring so much and being together so much has got to take its tole. they also have other interests in other arts. plus, if they don't get bigger or anything, they might be dropped and need another form of money.

a band can only survive at this rate of success for so long

exactly what Funky said. bands have to break up eventually, unless thay're like the Rolling Stones and tour forever (which isn't always a good thing).
stellastarr* seem like the sort of guys that will probably only carry on with the band until they feel they've exahusted it as a creative output, and then they'll move onto something else. they won't carry on with the band unless they're enjoying it, it doesn;t make sense to just keep accumulating debt to the label
but i'm sure we'll have at least 2-3 more years of them

I really believe most of their songs are too long for radio play. If they make a nice cathchy (without selling out) 2-3 minute song they will get the airplay then ppl will buy their albums and discover the rest of the songs. The next CD will be the real test!!!

the singles stellastarr* released are no longer than the ones Franz Ferdinand, The Killers or Kaiser Chiefs have released. Bloc Party's songs are twice as awkward as starllastarr's but the band is 10 times more popular. it's all about exposure

I guess the songs aren't catchy enough. They are good enough but my friends either love or hate stellastarr*. There is no in between. That may be a cause of the problem for global exceptance.

Unfortunately, it IS about exposure and hype can make a huge difference in a band's "success."

they were planning to release L&L as trhe next single but i think they axed it because of length. It is over 5 minutes i believe...

ReddersvilleBen
WHAAAAA?
it's about 3 and a half minutes long

funkycfunkydo
my bad, i didn't actually have my music with me to check, but its 4:18 on the album, about the same on bootlegs.

anddddddd i can't find where he said that. oh well

I still think Somewhere Across Forever is their best song. And I was shocked that it didn't make an impact on the music scene a couple of years ago.

ReddersvilleBen
It had about as much impact as a limited edition single released on a brand new independent label can possibly have. It was NME single of the week, it got them airplay on XFM (the biggest alternative radio station in the UK). SAF, together with stellastarr's performance at SXSW that year are what made stellastarr* the hottest new band in the world for a brief period. It didn't sustain itself because unlike The Killers or Kaiser Chiefs, stellastarr* didn't release the same singles over and over again until mainstream radio took notice.
