View Thread : Is There A New CD Due For This Year?
AmandaFannen
To be honest I really didn't like the Harmonies CD and I'm in Stellastarr* withdrawal right now hoping for a new release sometime. Is there anything new slated for 2006?
ReddersvilleBen
seeing as HFTH only came out in the UK in March (and to the best of my knowledge is still not officially released in some European and other countries) I'm going to say the next album will have to wait till 2007

...and until then, keep listening, it'll grow on yer :D

I believe they're writing the album now, which probably means recording it in the fall and releacing in the spring (maybe winter).
I think they should release it in the spring. If its really good, it can gain plenty of buzz before the end of the year "top ten album" lists. Wolf Parade last year was a good model as was Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to a lesser extent

H4TH is a grower, I didn't like it that much at first but I absolutely adore it now.
Aren't they meant to be touring the UK again later this year as well? Which would delay a new album even further.

I heard the touring the UK rumour too - but you would have thought it might have coincided with some festivals if they were going to do that..or maybe dates in october november to coincide with the students going back to university (traditionally lots of gigs are popular around this time) I'm hopeful, just let me clear a space on my credit card first!!!

The real reason I don't like the new CD is mainly because Amanda's bass lines aren't as distinctive as the first CD. She also had less vocals spots on the new one as well and since she has so much talent why the band as a whole compromise that?
I have a gut feeling that being as talented as Amanda is that is the band keeps her down over the next CD that she'll probally leave and or do a solo Cd.
That's weird how the CD hasn't gotten to some European countries yet when on the last release they were the ones with all of the CD/EP single collections.
ReddersvilleBen
I would expect the new album to be a little more experimental than HFTH, so probably a bigger role for Amanda

yea, maybe some more "She's Gone" type songs. The 3rd album is really a make it/break italbum where they could really hit their stride.

They used her backing vocals a lot more on HFtH, or at least a lot more than they used Michael's. Michael had said that they didn't want to make the songs too busy with all the vocal layers...tho, I think that's one of ss*s most distinct strengths. I guess we just have to wait and see how the band experiments and grows. :)

wow, missed that one. no offence but I think that's absolute rubbish. 'She's Gone' is from the HFTH sessions and we all know what a role Amanda has on it. the band has said it many times, they want HFTH to be a more cohesive record, less erratic than the debut. so the three-part harmonies were reduced to mostly just Shawn's vocal, with the odd backing vocal from Amanda. the song structures too are a lot more "conventional" than on the debut. I think it was very much a decision made by the whole band and not a case of "the boys keeping the girl in the background".
anyway, I think you might be a little biased :p

I'd be very surprised if Stellastarr* III came out this year, but I would have maximum respect for them if they achieved it. Bands take far too long to put albums together these days in my opinion.
joshfromschool
but alot of the time taken on albums is recording aswell.
although a major piece of the time spent is on writing. Altoguh you cant rush art work though. Would you rather they be like Korn putting out an album every 6 months?
ReddersvilleBen
i think Korn's prolificacy is the last reason a band wouldn't want to be like them :p

some of that is pressure from the label. as long as the old album is being bought, they wont want a new one. Franz Ferdinand went against this big-time releacing an amazing record while the great original was still very popular
adam scanlon
yep, that's the second reason why I respect Franz Ferdinand.
The first is that they're Sparks fans and there's a rumour going round that they're doing a Sparks covers album or something.
ilytandk
I didn't know that Franz Ferdinand were Sparks fans - and I for one would buy a Sparks cover album by anyone !!

Straight from the horses mouth:
Stellastarr* are starting to write the new album.

Very good news to here that StellaStarr* is working on the next CD. I pawned my Harmonies on ebay several months back for barely $2. I'm wondering if this CD will be more like the first one with Amanda shining on several songs or dead like the the later. Either which, I'm not pre ordering the CD this time and I'll probally just grab the good songs off of Itunes.
OnlyAnAddiction
Check their myspace, they might be releasing a new ep before a full length.
funkycfunkydo
that'd be good if they got some news of that out on here. I have it from a very good source that no new music will be publicly releaced this year, though.

Good things to come... my ears got a taste of candy last week.

This is why I joined the board .. to get news on the new album and maybe a listen to new materials coming out! :p
I preferred the first album but I also DID like number 2 very much .. and it is a grower!
I saw them live in Glasgow last year and they were very very good!!! :D
Hoping to hear more this year .. *2007* :)
