How do you guys like "numbers" up at the MySpace? That and the new recording of warchild are just making me really excited for the new album!

'Numbers' is interesting.
Judging by these and the songs I heard live, Album 3 is more glam and somewhat heavier/more rock.
Got that to look forward to and the new one from The National. 2009 should be a GOOD YEAR.

Shawn's voice sounds so, so different. Probably wouldn't be able to recognize it until ~:50. Absolutely love the finish to the song. New album rocks already.
And Warchild sounds much better cleaner.

I have to say Numbers sounds different from all the other stuff.
But i love it and its been a while since I got excited to hear a new song.
Great stuff and you will have my support no matter what you do stellastarr*. :D

It's been taken down. :(
The recut of Warchild is what I've been listening to, though. I absolutely love 1:23 where Shawn's voice momentarily angry and aggressive.

Was going to post this a while ago but just been busy...
1. I can't quite put my finger on it, but 'Numbers' reminds me of much havier bands than you would normally associate with Stellastarr*. The first band that comes to mind is System of a Down, but that's not exactly the sound I mean.
2. Usually with Stellastarr* every element of the song is distinct, but not on 'Numbers', where it sounds like the components are racing each other to the finish.
3. You get the feeling 'Numbers' might be the opening song on the new album...
4. Shawn's lyrics are becoming increasingly obscure ("I'd like to turn you into a trend" ???). I can't wait to hear the lyrics to 'Prom Zombie'...
5. Both songs have really weak middle eighths. I really wish Stellastarr* would go back to writing less conventional song structures.
6. I love Shawn's little "HA! you're on the level" bit towards the end of 'Numbers'.

2/5. What in your mind would be the less conventional stellastarr* tracks? I would think... Moongirl or Angela maybe? I'm not at all that knowledgeable with music. I'm curious, not attacking you.
4. The Harmonies For The Haunted lyrics thread probably explains the trend. Which is welcomed by me at least... I prefer songs that are more open to interpretation. My twisted interpretation of Sweet Troubled Soul is quite nice and I wouldn't want to have that broken. :p
