What's so bad about Daydream Nation?

It's not my favourite though. I'll take Experimental Jet Set, 'cos it's so damn snarky, even with Butch Vig, viggin' it up! Also, EVOL is gorgeous and Washing Machine haunts me...........A Thousand Leaves is great for depression. Everything since the full-time collaboration with Jim O'Rourke is sounding more and more pedestrian to me, but I have hope that they'll re-emerge in a better light very soon.

i do like daydream nation it just aint "that" good, lol. it does have one of my favorate sonic youth tracks, cross the breeze, but i dunno i just get into and enjoy there other stuff a lot more, i have quite a liking for dirty (hides from all youth fans who will call me a sell out.)

I've never been a fan of most Sonic Youth fans. A great band that attracts a lot of assholes to their shows, with some very fine exceptions of course. But you know the types, right?

Yeah, they've never been the best at self-editing, but then a lot of happy accidents have come from their extended works. Like side two of Washing Machine, for instance. But for whatever they do lack, they're the type of band that I know will be missed when they inevitably stop. They actually ARE that important.

i think they are almost velvet underground as in not recognised till there gone, i realise they were quite big in america for a bit? but no huge universal recognition it could change soon, people do talk about them a lot more and theyv just finished new album "nurse"

Yeah, they were huge here in the early-mid nineties, and then they released Washing Machine and it all ended. They still have their core crowd here, and their albums do well enough.

i think their main problem is they are a name dropped band, most notably people like bowie and kurt cobain, they get mentioned by recognised artists people go out buy daydream nation dont find it that easy to get into and forget about them for the most part, the same happens with the pixies, but they are a hell of a lot easier to get into, as long as the 1st song you hear is not the god forsaken where is my mind?

I didn't think Where Is My Mind? to be that bad of an introduction to the Pixies, but then, the first thing I heard of theirs was Bone Machine, so what do I know? Yeah, SY gets name dropped almost as much as the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, and in certain circles, Television and Patti Smith. Not bad company to keep if you asked me, and whatever starts a dialogue between a musician and a consumer can't be a bad thing.

I'm depressed, so I'm listening to A Thousand Leaves - it's working. They're guitars talk about it so I don't have to.

Sonic Youth album - Dirty note how much The Cooper Temple Clauses song Promises Promises has same riff as Drunken Butterfly (i love you CTC!)

and as for Pixies, am going to see them at T and first song i heard was Monkey Gone To Heaven.

of course

Sonic Youth are pretty amazing- favorite album has to be Goo, song-Mote.
First Pixes song i ever heard was Where Is My Mind?, twas on a mix tape one of my ex's made for me...as my relationship failed with my ex, i gained a relationship with the Pixies, so to speak.

isitobsession
You know, I've never heard Goo. I got everything before Goo and after Dirty a few years ago. Just recently picked up Dirty - better than I thought it would be. I really like Theresa's Sound-world.

killabikini
